Delete your VoiceShelf account
Deleting your account is permanent. Your recordings can't be recovered afterwards, so save a copy first if you want to keep them.
If you have the app
- Optional: Profile → Account → Export my recordings to save a copy.
- Profile → Account → Delete account, then confirm with your password.
Your access ends at once, and the rest is removed within about 15 minutes. Recordings kept only on that phone are removed from it too, once the deletion is confirmed.
Delete it here
We'll email a code to the address of your account to make sure the request is really yours, show you which account it is, and ask you to confirm. We never ask for your password.
What is deleted
- Your account, sign-in and profile (username and bio).
- Every recording you uploaded, with its audio, title and caption.
- Your likes, comments, follows, follow requests, close-knit group and blocks.
- If you delete without the app, recordings kept only on a phone stay on that phone until you remove them or the app; nobody else can open them.
What is kept, and for how long
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your username, without any link to you | So nobody can take over your name | Indefinitely |
| Reports about content, which may include a snapshot of it (e.g. a comment's text, a recording's title) | Safety and moderation | Until the report expires: at most one year after it is resolved |
| Audio held because of a serious report or a legal request | Evidence; nobody else can access it | Up to 90 days, or while a legal hold lasts |
| Reports you made | Kept for moderation, with your name removed | As above |
| A record that a deletion took place (no content, no username) | To finish the deletion and answer its status | 30 days after it completes |
| Encrypted backups of the database and recordings | Recovery from failures | Deleted by hand once older than 30 days; because this is manual, a backup may sometimes be kept longer |
